How I Made Over $500 in One Day from My Blog

The year 2018 started off a bit rocky for my family. The flu hit us hard in early January, and then I had to have emergency surgery that knocked me off my feet for almost two weeks. But somehow, that rough month really spurred me into action and motivated me to make up for lost time. It even led me to my highest earning day for my blog (so far). Today, I’m going to show you that you really can make money blogging.

And it’s not as hard as you think…

I started this blog because I want to help you simplify the daily grind of work-from-home life, so that you can make more money and live life on your own terms. Beach vacations and baby snuggles, anyone?

But seriously…

Most of us don’t want to just work and pay bills until we die. We want to make a decent living and enjoy life, right? And if you’re really interested in starting a blog, or turning your current one into a money-maker, I’m here to tell you that it’s totally possible. Even if you have babies, a tight budget, or a full-time job. It’s all possible.

I invested less than a hundred bucks into my blog during the first year. I got my website hosting through Siteground, used a free blogging theme, and just started writing and sharing. It is seriously that simple to get started.

As you grow, of course you’ll need to continue investing in your blog…but don’t let that stop you from getting started! It’s cheap and easy to start a blog, and the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll start making money.

How to Make Money Blogging

In my last article, I talked about the different ways that most bloggers make their money. Essentially, bloggers make money from these two things:

  1. Creating and selling their own stuff.
  2. Promoting and selling other people’s stuff.

When you create and sell your own stuff, there are a TON of benefits. The greatest of them being: you have full creative control and you get 100% of the profits.

Can’t beat that.

When you sell someone else’s stuff, it’s pretty sweet too! Because you don’t have to do the work of creating the product. You just find products you love, join the company or networks that sell those products, promote them, and get paid a commission on sales.

They’re both great ways to make money blogging!

Here’s How I Made $500 in ONE DAY from my Blog

I’m all about keeping it simple around here. I don’t have any extravagant secrets to success. My only real secret is that I work hard, I adjust when something isn’t working, and I keep things really simple.

And that works for me.

Here is exactly what I did to make $500 in just one day from my blog:

  1. I created and sold my own stuff.
  2. I promoted and sold someone else’s stuff.

Period.

It’s really that simple.

Oh, you want a breakdown? I’ll give you that too.

Creating and selling my own stuff.

I cannot recommend this enough. There are so many benefits to creating and selling your own stuff. You need to make sure that your stuff is useful for your reader, and that you are solving a real problem for them. And then start sharing, marketing, helping, guiding, selling (whatever it is that you offer). It doesn’t have to be complicated.

So, what did I sell?

  1. I sold my 21-day online training course. I made (2) sales on launch day and earned $198. Boom.
  2. That same day, I wrote/sold a guest post on someone’s website for $100. If you’re interested in guest writing, check out this article with a list of websites that will pay you to write for them.

Promoting and selling other people’s stuff.

One way you can do this is through affiliate marketing, and it’s a great way for bloggers to make money. Most companies have affiliate programs these days, and some offer a hefty commission on your sales.

The day that I launched my course in February of 2018, I made $200 in affiliate sales.

If you’re keeping track, that equals $498 in a single day, just from my own blogging business. I also made $4.25 from ad sales on another site that I contribute to occasionally (hehe), which puts me at $502.25 in one day.

Okay, okay. It’s not exactly $500, but I prefer whole numbers for headlines…I have issues, I know.

How much money can you really make?

The cool part about blogging is that your work can continue to make money long after you actually hit publish. Your affiliate links can continue to earn income, your courses can continue to sell, your website can continue to display ads and earn income from them, etc. It’s called passive income, and it rocks!

You can make a lot of money from your blog.

I started off making pennies, back when my blog was just a hobby. When I started taking it seriously and decided to turn my blog into a real business, everything changed.

Now I make a steady monthly income from my blog, I finally got to walk away from my sucky day job, and I make money every day through the systems I described above…even on days that I’m not technically “working.” I hit my first five-hundred-dollar day in February of 2018, and I’m here to help you if you want to say the same for your blog.

If you take nothing else away from this article, take this away:

Start your blog today and think seriously about those two major ways that bloggers make their money. By this time next year, you can be on the other side of this blog article talking about how YOU make $500 a day from your blog.

  1. Thank you for this advice. Other bloggers always talk about ads and affiliate, but I’ve never heard about this option before.

  2. You’re so welcome! Ads and affiliates are great, and they actually fit into that category of selling other people’s stuff. Feel free to reach out anytime if you need some help with your blog strategy!

  3. I have only heard of affiliates as well. I have a lifestyle blog geared towards women that are 50+ and live a snowbird lifestyle. I would love to sell something on my website that would be useful to them. …but what? Do you seel an actual item or do you mean information?
    PS…I’m a fellow blogging newb:)

  4. You can sell physical or digital products, whichever works better for you and your audience. I sell digital products only, and provide writing, editing, and blog-strategy services. Here is a link to the course that I sell: come-a-blogger.teachable.com/p/becoming-a-blogger/?preview=logged_out

  5. $500 in a day is quite an impressive income.
You didn’t share about the promotion. How did you get the clients? Did you send an email?
That would be helpful if you can share your marketing strategies. 🙂

  6. Promotion is a topic for a whole different blog post, because it is just sooo much info! But ultimately I promote through SEO, Pinterest, Facebook, and lastly Instagram 🙂

  7. Aw, this is quite a nice post. In concept I have to put in place writing such as this additionally – taking time and actual effort to produce a really good article… but so what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no means manage to get something done.

  8. Thank you for reading, I appreciate you! Procrastination is a tough one to work through, but you can do it. Set little daily goals and reward yourself when you reach them!
