Why I Chose Siteground for Website Hosting

If you’re trying to figure out what hosting company you should use for your blog, you’re in the right place!

In this article, I’m going to give you five major reasons why I chose Siteground for my website hosting… along with the pros and cons I’ve experienced over the past three years of doing business with them!

Let’s get to it!

Image of white desk with flowers and journals, with text overlay - Why I Use Siteground Hosting for my Blog Our blog posts contain affiliate links. These don’t cost you anything, but they allow us to continue running this site and providing free content for our readers. Full disclosure here.

Every website needs a place to live on the internet. Your website host (in this case, Siteground) acts as the virtual plot of land for your website.

Your website is the house that lives on that virtual plot of land and your domain name is the address attached to your house.

Therefore: my host (the virtual plot of land) is Siteground. My website (my house that sits on that virtual plot of land) is this website that you are visiting right now. And my domain name (the address for my house) is 😊

When you use a system that combines a hosting company like Siteground, your own website, and your own domain name, you are officially “self-hosted.”

Having your own self-hosted website is super important as a blogger, because it’s the only way to actually own your website (your house).

Now, you could choose to rent a house from someone else, like Wix, or Blogger, or Squarespace… but when you take that route, THEY own the house. You don’t.

They also have the right to modify, share, or delete your content at their discretion, because it’s their house and they can do whatever they want with it…That kinda sucks for you.

With these things in mind, it’s pretty clear that self-hosting is the best option for your blog! Every business owner should officially own their business and have the right and ability to do anything they want with it…Self-hosting makes this possible.

There are hundreds of options out there for website hosting. Some are less than impressive, and others are worth every penny and then some.

I personally get website hosting through Siteground, and I’ve been with them for over three years now. My website (my house) lives on their servers, which allows my blog to exist online for the world to see! Without them, I could not have a live website.

In this article, I’m going to share the main reasons that I continue to choose Siteground for hosting each year, but ultimately, there are a few important things to look for with any website host:

– Do they care about your security? Some hosts are better than others with security measures!

– Do they offer helpful tools to keep your site running smoothly?

– Do they offer a FREE SSL certificate for your website? They should!

– Do they have fast servers that guarantee limited downtime for your website?

– Do they follow “best practices” for hosting, or do they engage in shady behavior, like server stuffing?

These are all questions that you need to consider and research before choosing your hosting company.

Okay, onto the good stuff now!

Here’s why I use and love Siteground for my website hosting, in no particular order:

Siteground offers a hefty discount on your introductory rate when you sign up. You can purchase an annual hosting plan for just $3.95/month, which adds up to $47.40 for your first year.

Seriously… that is a full year of having your website live on the internet for less than $50.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, and it’s an extra layer of security for your website. If your website is secure and has an SSL certificate, there will be a little “s” next to the http in your website URL. It should look like this:

Many website hosts charge an extra fee for your security certificate. And it’s not exactly an optional add on! Google recently made it a requirement to have this security layer on your blogging website. If you don’t have an SSL certificate, your viewers will get a message that says your website is not safe, and the prompt will recommend them to leave the site immediately.

This means no website traffic, no readers, and no money for you.

Booooo…. 👎

Thankfully, Siteground offers a free SSL certificate with your hosting package. With just the flip of a virtual switch, your SSL can be added to your website for free.

I really appreciate that Siteground takes security very seriously and they include the easy-to-use Let’s Encrypt SSL option with all of their hosting plans.

With the WordPress Migrator you can transfer your website over to Siteground with just a few clicks and no tech skills.

When I first started blogging, I set up on (not self-hosted). When I realized how limiting that was, I wanted to switch platforms. But I already had blog posts and pictures and all sorts of content on my blog back then, and the idea of losing everything was so scary!

Siteground helped me migrate everything over to their servers for free, and I didn’t lose a single thing 😊

Siteground has a free plugin called SG Optimizer, and that baby speeds up your website so that everything loads quickly and runs smoothly. Here’s a quote directly from their website:

With its powerful caching capabilities and new front-end and image optimization features, it optimizes the performance of your site to the point that many sites experienced between 20% and 500% speed increase!

Site speed matters: if your site and images don’t load quickly, your bounce rate will increase, and user experience will be affected. My own website also has a historic up-time of 100%, meaning my website runs smoothly and never experiences any down time.

Siteground is a favorite in the blogging community for a reason – they run an amazing business and they take good care of their clients. Here is a fun little fact about their client satisfaction rate in 2018:

In 2018, SiteGround achieved an incredible 98% Client Satisfaction rate! This is the fourth year in a row that their rate is growing. The company keeps its dedication to customer happiness its number one priority. Their team worked on multiple projects during 2018 to extend the tools they offer to customers, make the client onboarding experience better, enhance the performance of their sites, and stop millions of security threats.

Anyone with 98% customer satisfaction rate must be doing something right.

A few other helpful Siteground benefits: They have an amazing Live Chat support option that can help you solve your tech problems within minutes. And they also provide (5) free professional domain email addresses for each of their clients.

Now, let’s get to the CON list.

And here it is: NOTHING, really.

The truth is, there aren’t any big red flags or serious cons to using Siteground. There is just one thing to be aware of: after your introductory period ends, the price increases to their regular rate.

To save some money, you can buy up to (3) years up front and lock in that discounted introductory rate for the full (3) years… so I highly recommend doing that if you possibly can! It will save you so much money.

Let’s wrap this baby up like a burrito… because I’m getting hungry and I’m craving some Mexican food!

Key points: Setting up your own self-hosted website is the best way to grow and monetize your blogging biz. Part of this process includes purchasing hosting through a company like Siteground.

They provide the virtual land for your website to live on, and they provide extra tools to help you maximize the efficiency of your website. This includes a speed/image optimization plugin and a free SSL certificate.

If you want to take the self-hosted route, I highly recommend giving Siteground a try!
