Canva Free vs Paid Plan: Everything You Need to Know

Let’s talk about growing your blog traffic and following with a nifty little tool called Canva. Specifically, let’s dig into the difference between the Canva free vs paid plan, and which one is the right fit for you and your blogging goals.

If you’re not familiar with it, Canva is a graphic design website and app that allows you to create your own digital designs and products quickly and easily.

Canva has a free plan and a paid plan, both are PACKED with amazing features!

In this article, we’ll compare the two plans so you can decide which one is right for you.

Both plans have a lot of great features, and starting out with the free plan can definitely help you create some amazing graphics for your blog and social media!

But there’s no denying that the pro features are out of this world too – they really help you take your design to the next level.

Let’s compare the features on both.

  • 250,000 templates for you to choose from
  • 100+ design types for social media, presentations, letters, and more
  • Hundreds of thousands of free photos and graphics to choose from
  • Ability to invite members to your Canva team
  • Collaborate and comment with your team in real-time
  • 5 GB of cloud storage for your designs

With their paid plan, you get everything that’s included on the free plan, plus…

  • 100+ million premium stock photos, videos, audio and graphics
  • 610,000+ premium and free templates with new designs published DAILY
  • Ability to use your own brand or campaign colors, logos, and fonts with up to 100 brand kits
  • Ability to remove image backgrounds instantly with the background remover
  • Resize designs infinitely with magic resize
  • Save designs as templates for your entire team to use
  • 100GB of cloud storage
  • Schedule social media content to 8 popular platforms instantly!
  • Share your account with up to 50 people

Note: the cheapest pro plan includes account sharing for up to 5 people. As you add more people to your team, the price increases.

When comparing Canva free vs paid options, there are a handful of paid features that make it a no-brainer for me.

These are some of the best Canva pro features available within your account:

  • Remove background on Canva app. This feature is only available on their paid/pro plan, and it’s a MUST for me.
  • Resize anything. Also only available on the paid plan, and it makes repurposing/reusing content sooo quick and easy!

Need to resize something quickly to share on another platform in another size?

  • Premium stock photo library. Some photos are available on the free plan, but the extensive selection of premium images and graphics are only available on the paid plan.

It’s a competitive world online.

When everyone else is using the SAME handful of free stock images, how are you going to stand apart?

By choosing something different!

There are other great features too, but those three are the ones that sealed the deal for me.

Canva’s free plan is, of course, always free. The features are limited, but it’s still an incredible tool if you’re on a tight budget.

Canva’s Pro monthly plan starts at $12.99/month and goes up from there, depending on how many people you need on your team.

Canva now allows you to add more members to your team for the same low price you’d be paying by yourself.

If you have two people on your team sharing the Canva app, you’d each be paying about $7 a month for this tool, and you’d both get full access to the premium features!

They also allow you to save even more money by purchasing an annual plan instead of a monthly plan. Just make sure you hit the option to be ‘billed yearly’.

Example: at the time of publishing this article, you can pay $12.99 a month for their pro-plan, or $119.99 a year for the pro plan (save yourself the 35 bucks and grab the annual plan if you are able).

Bonus Tip: You can have up to 5 team members on your annual plan. Team up, split the cost, and save even more!

If you find a few other people that want to use Canva, you can share a team account, grab a monthly or annual plan (annual if you want that extra discount) and everyone on the team would be paying less than $24 A YEAR for Canva. Less than $2 a month per person (on the annual plan).

Is the Canva paid plan worth $2 a month? Absolutely!

It’s worth much more than that, but I’m all about saving money when you can!

Once you jump in and start playing around with this tool, you’ll be able to decide for yourself.

Some people only need the basic features provided on the free plan. Others will want the advanced features like the background remover and resize option.

At the end of the day, these are massive time savers that pay for themselves by doing a lot of the ‘heavy lifting’ of design work for you.
