My Top 5 Beauty Tips!

When I was a carefree teenage girl, I loved my cosmetics and accessories. That was back when I had more free time than I knew what to do with. I enjoyed getting dressed up, buying colorful and funky jewelry, and I rarely left the house without my mascara on.

That is not to say that a makeup-free face is a bad thing. Quite the contrary, I love giving my face time to breathe without covering it with junk. But I will admit that I miss having the time and freedom to give extra attention to my beauty routine.

Now I’ve got a full-time job, bills to pay, and that other full-time job called motherhood. I had no idea how much time and energy these things actually take out of a person, until now.

That said, I don’t ever want being a busy wife and mother to keep me from taking care of my skin and feeling beautiful (most days). After giving my beauty routine some thought, I put together this list of my top 5 tips for beautiful skin and a fresh-looking face.

From my experience, these are five things you can do easily, quickly, and relatively cheap.

1. Use BB or CC Creams

I don’t personally like having too much makeup on my face, just a light cover up works for me because I feel like my skin can still breathe and it doesn’t melt off in the California heat. You can buy a decent BB or CC cream from any drugstore for around $12, but I’ll always be a big fan of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm. I am not being paid to say that, I just really love the product. Every time I have it on, I get asked about my skin care routine, so that tells me that I’ve got a winner!

2. Exfoliate Once Each Week

I do not exfoliate every day because it really dries out my skin. I make my own exfoliating facial scrub and I use it once each week. I also have my own line of all-natural body sugar scrubs, which I use to gently slough away any dead skin and moisturize my skin.

3. Drink Tons of Water

Water is like magic. If you want fresh, hydrated skin, you need to drink water like it is going out of style. I add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice to make boring water a little more tasty. Lemon water helps beat belly bloat as well, so you just can’t go wrong.

4. Use That Coconut Oil

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but coconut oil really is amazing! You can buy a huge tub of organic, virgin coconut oil for around $12, and you can use it for so many things, in the kitchen and in your beauty routine. I use coconut oil in all of my homemade facial and body scrubs. I use coconut oil as a moisturizing mask on my hair. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I never touched a commercial stretch mark cream. I just lathered on the coconut oil twice each day and managed to avoid stretch marks, along with that dry, itchy belly that so many pregnant woman complain about. My family teases me about it constantly, but I rave about coconut oil to everyone who will listen. If you don’t use it yet, you should probably start.

5. Use Highlighter

Like I’ve said before, I keep my makeup routine really simple. If you moisturize, exfoliate weekly, and drink tons of water, you will have a fresh canvas to work with. Always start with a light moisturizer or BB cream that has sunblock in it. Top it off with some blush on your cheeks and then highlight the top of your cheeks and the tip of your nose. To do this, I use the Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette. Finish off with some mascara, and you’ll have a fresh, natural look that highlights your cheeks and eyes.
